A side bet is an extra wager you can place beside the main bet at a table run by live casino dealers. It is settled on its own event and its own paytable, whatever happens to the main hand. This page names the side bets on the live baccarat and blackjack pages the site saved, prices them per peso and shows how to size one.

What a side bet is at a live table

Evolution’s own pages describe the side bets by game. The page for Live Baccarat says the default Pairs side bets are Player Pair and Banker Pair, each paying 11 to 1, and that Player Bonus, Banker Bonus, Either Pair and Perfect Pairs can be enabled in the game settings. The page for Live Blackjack describes Perfect Pairs and 21+3 as the usual side bets, with Any Pair, Hot 3 and Bust It added in the Infinite and Power games.

GameSide betWhat it asks (per Evolution’s pages)
BaccaratPlayer Pair, Banker PairAre the first two cards of that hand a pair?
Baccarat (No Commission)Super 6Does the Banker win with a 6? (pays 15 to 1)
BlackjackPerfect PairsAre your first two cards a mixed, coloured or perfect pair?
Blackjack21+3Do your first two cards and the dealer’s open card make a poker hand?
BlackjackBust ItWill the dealer’s hand total more than 21?

The main bet and the side bet are separate. You can win one and lose the other in the same round.

Why a side bet costs more per peso

A main bet wins close to half the time. A side bet is a rare event paid at long odds, and those odds are set below the true chance. The figures below come from named sources or from the arithmetic shown.

BetCost per peso stakedSource
Banker (baccarat)1.06%a card-games reference, 8 decks
Player (baccarat)1.24%the same reference
Pair at 11 to 1 (baccarat)10.36%working below, 8 decks
Perfect Pair, Evolution blackjack8.05%a published odds analysis, 8 decks
21+3 (9 to 1 version)2.74%the same analysis, 8 decks

The pair working: with 8 decks, a second card matches the first rank 31 times in 415, about 7.47%. An 11 to 1 payout gives (0.0747 x 11) - (0.9253 x 1) = 0.8217 - 0.9253 = a loss of 0.1036 per peso, so 10.36%.

The odds analysis prices Evolution’s version of Perfect Pair at 25 to 1 for one perfect pair and 200 to 1 for two. The same 21+3 version costs more with fewer decks: 4.24% with four decks, against 2.74% with eight. Open the table’s paytable to see the pays the table uses, because they set the cost.

What the cost looks like in pesos

Use a 200 peso Banker bet and a 50 peso pair side bet in a round.

  1. The Banker bet costs 200 x 1.06% = 2.12 pesos on average.
  2. The pair side bet costs 50 x 10.36% = 5.18 pesos on average.
  3. The side bet is a quarter of the stake but costs more than twice as much.
  4. In pesos per peso staked, the side bet costs about ten times the Banker bet.

A cost of 5.18 pesos is an average over many rounds. A single round either pays 550 pesos or loses the 50 pesos on that pair bet, and nothing in the shoe makes a pair arrive on a schedule.

How to size a side bet

Treat it as entertainment you are willing to lose, not as a way to catch up. Set the size before the countdown.

  1. Fix the main bet first, using your bet unit meaning from your session budget.
  2. Cap the side bet at a fraction of that unit, for example one fifth.
  3. Skip it when the stake is already at the top of your budget.
  4. Do not raise it after a loss; the next round does not owe you a result.

A smaller side bet keeps the extra cost small, and the arithmetic stays visible: stake times the cost percentage.

FAQ

What is a side bet?

It is an optional wager next to the main bet. It wins or loses on a separate event, such as whether your first two cards are a pair, and it has its own paytable.

Is a side bet worse value than the main bet?

Usually, yes. In the saved figures, a baccarat pair costs about 10.4% and the Evolution blackjack Perfect Pair 8.05%, while the Banker bet costs 1.06% and the Player bet 1.24%.

Magkano ang dapat kong ilagay sa side bet?

Keep it a small share of your main stake, and treat it as entertainment money you can lose. A rule such as one fifth of the main bet keeps the extra cost small.
