A Telegram channel is a one-way broadcast that anyone can create under any name, which is why copies of well-known brands appear so easily. The question is not whether a channel looks busy, but whether it is the channel the brand itself points to. This page gives you the checks, the red flags and the reporting steps. For the wider set of checks on any gaming name, use the legit site checks.

How to tell a real Telegram channel from an impostor

Follow these in order. Each one takes under a minute and none needs you to trust the channel.

  1. Open the brand through an address you checked yourself, then find the Telegram link on the brand’s own page. Do not search Telegram for the name and join the first result.
  2. Open the channel’s info page and look for Telegram’s verification badge beside the name.
  3. Read the username letter by letter against the one the brand’s page shows. An impostor often swaps one character or adds a word.
  4. Check what the channel posts and what it asks. A channel that opens with a request for money or codes is a copy.
  5. Leave the channel if any step fails, and report it as set out below.

A padlock on the brand’s page only shows an encrypted connection, as what the https padlock proves explains. If the link on that page was itself a short address, see how short links hide their destination first.

What Telegram’s verification badge means

Telegram’s own verify page explains the badge. Use the table to read it correctly.

Telegram saysWhat it means for you
Verification is for large and active official channels, groups and botsA small real channel may have no badge
Special badges appear on info pages, in chat lists and in search resultsLook in all three places
Only Telegram assigns the official verification checkmarkThird-party verifiers use completely different icons
Verification is not an endorsement of what a chat sharesA badge says the channel is official, not that its offers are good
A link to Telegram on the brand’s own site can achieve a similar resultA link from the brand’s own page counts even without a badge
Telegram does not verify user accountsA person’s account never carries the badge

The last row matters for support: an individual “agent” account will not show a badge, however professional its photo looks.

Red flags on a fake Telegram channel

Any one of these is a reason to leave. Compare them with the signs on a copied site in how a phishing website imitates a lobby, because the same people use both.

Red flagWhy it matters
A username that differs by one character, an extra digit or “official” addedImpostors rely on a quick glance
No badge and no link from the brand’s own pageNothing ties the channel to the brand
A message saying staff contacted you firstThe 89PHP lobby’s own notice says its customer service staff do not contact players first
A request for a one-time code or passwordThe same notice says never to share an account, a password or a one-time code
Pressure to act today, or a countdownUrgent language is a standard phishing sign in CISA’s guidance
A private message from the channel’s “admin” after you joinA real broadcast channel does not need to message you first

What a channel or support account should never ask for

A genuine channel gives news. A genuine support account answers what you asked. Neither needs the items below.

  1. Your password.
  2. A one-time code. Telegram’s FAQ says login codes for a Telegram account arrive in its chat named Telegram and should never be shared with anyone.
  3. A payment to release a payment, such as a “tax” or “verification fee” before winnings are paid.
  4. Your wallet PIN or card details.
  5. A request to log in through a link they send you.

Maya’s help page says Maya will never ask for your password, one-time code or card details, and the same rule is a good test for any gaming support account.

Telegram support: how to check an account before you reply

“Telegram support” accounts are the most common route for impostors, because they message you one to one. Run the same checks as for a channel, and then three more.

  1. Did you start the conversation from the brand’s own page, or did the account contact you first?
  2. Does the account claim to be Telegram itself? Telegram’s real service chat carries a verified profile with a blue check, and a lookalike does not.
  3. Does it ask you to move to another chat, app or link? That is how a scam leaves the place where it can be reported.

How to report an impostor to Telegram

Telegram’s FAQ says every Telegram app has Report buttons for flagging illegal content to its moderators. The steps differ by device:

  1. On Android, tap the message and select Report from the menu.
  2. On iOS, press and hold the message, then choose Report.
  3. On Telegram Desktop, Web or macOS, right-click the message and select Report.
  4. Choose an appropriate reason.

Telegram’s FAQ also gives an automated takedown email address, abuse@telegram.org, and asks you to include links to the content you want its moderators to look at. If an account is pretending to be you, read the FAQ entry titled “What if someone is pretending to be me?”. Then tell the Philippine bodies as well, using how to report a scam website for the numbers.

Where 89PHP’s Telegram row sits in the lobby

The 89PHP lobby has a round headset control that opens a Message center. On 12 October 2026 that screen listed an entry for online customer service and four more rows, one of them a Telegram hotline, each with a Contact Now control. The lobby prints no email address and no phone number there.

This site prints no handle for it. Reach it from that screen inside the lobby, opened through an address you checked, not from a link in a message.

FAQ

Does every real Telegram channel have a verification badge?

No. Telegram's verify page says verification goes to large, active official channels, bots and groups, and that a link to the channel from the brand's own site can serve a similar purpose. Use the badge together with the other checks.

What should a Telegram support account never ask me for?

Your password, a one-time code, or a payment to release a payment. The 89PHP lobby's own notice says staff do not contact players first and that you should never share an account, a password or a code.
